The following video was made by Rosemary Farms, a 501(c)3 equine sanctuary in New York. What a beautiful and impressive group (the org and the horses.) This is Molly’s band — a quick visit to their lovely website will let you see the other bands and individual horses.
And just who is this mare, Molly? And why should you care?
The answer is found on their website:
“Molly is the ‘force of nature’, the Leader of the Leaders, that helps run Rosemary Farm. A deep black Percheron mare, Molly was saved from slaughter in 2009, literally as she was walking onto the truck to ship to slaughter in Canada. When purchased that day in the crowded holding chute, the waybill was pulled off her butt and her life saved. Sent to auction by a ‘religious riding camp’, she had a checkered past and violence was clearly a part of it. It was a challenge to form a human bond with her, but well worth it. Her intelligence, bravery, and calm demeanor serves to anchor and guide the main band at Rosemary Farm Sanctuary.”
No wonder people love New York. I do! And Rosemary Farms, as well.
Rosemary Farm’s main mission is to provide sanctuary for horses. They have shown a long-term track record of being responsible about the number of horses in the care so that those they do help are always well cared for and, as you can see in the case of Molly, don’t shy away from a “hard” case.
How to Help
Donate. Like most equine rescues, they rely on the generosity — your generosity for donations, and also have sponsorships available for any horse(s) you want to specifically help. Your donations are tax-deductible.
They also host fundraising events, offer a calendar for sale (the 2015 calendar is gorgeous!) so be sure to check their website often for updates.
Like them on Facebook, enjoy the video and check out their website at http://rosemaryfarm.org/ to learn more about the organization and how you can help.

From their YouTube Channel:
“A non-profit rescue for horses, Rosemary Farm Sanctuary is located on 114 farm acres in South Kortright NY (between Delhi and Stamford). Over 45 horses, rescued from slaughter or abuse, live at the sanctuary in peace. We welcome visits to the farm to meet the horses and see the herds playing on the mountain. Select horses are available for adoption, many are here for life. RFSI is a volunteer based 501(c)(3) charity and supports our herd with donations from the public. Open tours on Saturdays at 10am and 2pm, or by appointment; write to [email protected]”
